Raymond Garner Jr.

Raymond Garner Jr. is a dedicated fifth-generation farmer from Halifax County, North Carolina, with a deep-rooted commitment to the agricultural industry. As the owner and operator of Garner Family Farms, Raymond has been farming since 1992, growing a diverse range of crops, including peanuts, cotton, soybeans, and wheat. A graduate of North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science in agronomy, he previously worked as an agriculture agent with the NC Cooperative Extension Service before fully embracing his farming career.
Raymond’s leadership extends beyond his farm. He currently serves as the president of both the Halifax County Farm Bureau and the NC Peanut Growers Association. In addition, he is a partner in Roanoke Cotton Company, LLC, and has been actively involved in his community, serving in various roles at Smith United Methodist Church and on the board of trustees at Halifax Academy.
As a former alternate board member for North Carolina, Raymond has witnessed firsthand the positive impact that National Peanut Board-sponsored research and promotional efforts have had on the peanut industry. He is particularly proud of the strides made in peanut consumption, allergy research, and production improvements that have enhanced profitability for farmers.
Raymond and his wife Janice are proud parents of two children, Elizabeth and Ray III. In their free time, they enjoy supporting their children’s sports and extracurricular activities, as well as attending NC State University football games.
“Peanut consumption is increasing, concerns about peanut allergies are being addressed, and production research has improved profitability,” Raymond said. “It’s a great time to be a peanut farmer, and I am excited to continue contributing to the growth of the industry through my work with the National Peanut Board.”
